I love Sabrina Carpenter’s sweet vocals. I love her lyrics when they’re clever, cheeky, ironic, and just the right amount of horny. But her new single “Manchild” feels oddly muted — like a B-side from “Short n’ Sweet” that somehow wandered into her new era. It’s ironic and sharp, with lyrics that flirt with twisted humor, sure, but lacks the punch or sparkle we’ve come to expect. The wit is there, but the fire isn’t.
And girl, seriously — who approved that album cover of your upcoming studio album? Blink twice if you need help.
